Evanston Housing Statistics

The average rates for rentals in Evanston in 2003 were:

Studio: $740     1 BR: $925
2 BR: $1,125   3 BR: $1,925

The median selling price of a home in 2004 was $383,000.

Evanston's Housing Gap

  • Under HUD guidelines, a 2 BR apartment (including utilities) would be barely affordable for a household with an income of $43,000.
  • Under HUD guidelines, a family with a household income of less than $78,000 could not afford to buy an average home.
  • 25% of homeowners and 40% of renters are currently paying more than 30% of their income on housing.
