Affordable Home Applications Accepted - 2212 Washington Street

Citizens’ Lighthouse Community Land Trust conducted this year’s first community meeting of the year on March 9, 2008 at the Levy Center. The meeting was held to make sure that community members had an opportunity to get details about the community land trust model and its benefits to the community. Residents from Evanston and neighboring communities attended.

The community land trust model provides for community control of the land. This means that the house on it will remain affordable since the land is owned by the CLCLT membership. The organization is a Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO). This means that it is eligible for federal and state funds that make the units it develops affordable for low- and moderate-income families.

Each development project is different and varies according to its funding sources and actual costs. Participants were able to ask questions about the details of the house currently available for sale. Anticipated projects were briefly described as well. These include condominium units and houses of varying sizes.

Budget developments for the house currently on sale and other projects were discussed. The house at 2212 Washington Street remains on sale for prospective buyers. Families that live or work in Evanston have priority. Anyone may apply, however.

CLCLT is happy to announce that it has reviewed market conditions and its project budget. The board has raised additional funds to apply to the project, making improvements that are even better for first time homebuyers than originally projected. The board will also seek additional funds from governmental sources to make the home affordable for a family of four. The organization has also established working relationships with local banks, providing for favorable financing options.

Interested persons should view the organization’s website at www.citizenslighthouse.org and call 847-772-6702 for additional information.
